San Leandro
About San Leandro
San Leandro lies between San Lorenzo to the south and Oakland to the north. It is bisected by the Nimitz Freeway, Highway 880; along the eastern border is the MacArthur Freeway, Highway 580. To the west is San Francisco Bay. Bay Area Rapid Transit has several stops in San Leandro, and the city is well served by buses. Although it lies within the Oakland urban area, San Leandro is mainly a multicultural residential community. Many Hispanic residents live on the 'flats' just east of the Bay; the homes on the hills above are lovely and have beautiful views of San Francisco and the Bay Bridge. And just off the northwestern tip of the city is Oakland International Airport. San Leandro has easy access to the San Mateo Bridge and the Bay Bridge. Although it can be cool when the fog rolls into the Bay, normally it burns off by mid-morning and the temperature moderates. The Oakland Zoo and Knowland Arboretum are situated in the hills near the northeastern part of the city. The McAfee Colosseum and Oracle Arena in Oakland are within easy access.
